Nomoskar!
Saree is not just a piece of cloth ..It is an emotion of a woman since her Girlhood.
I never realised when it has become an integral part of my life. Passion became Profession..
But how exactly did Aktara start? Let me take you on a trip down the memory lane.
I always felt something is unaccounted for somewhere.
Why should I buy only South Silk or Banarasi for every occasion when there is a plethora of variety and breathtaking elegance readily available in the sarees of Bengal.
Why doesn't anyone experiment with the legacy of our own state?
Then Our child has come into our life and it became really difficult for me to go out to work.
But I never wanted to be financially dependent on anyone. Finally came up with an idea.
What if I work with some of the Heritage classics of Bengal Handloom.
By then I had quit my job and got some liquidity from my Provident Fund.
So I decided to venture my passion and went directly to the weavers and bought Five Sarees.
Not by handing out design blueprints, not by selecting color shades, simply bought them as a consumer of the product and admirer of the craftsmanship.
Because at that point of time I could not even think in my wildest dreams that Aktara will be conceptualised,
Chilekuthi will be built.
So I simply went and selected Five Sarees which are very commonly available in the market with the plan that I will keep them for myself in case this doesn’t work out.
But maybe the almighty had something else planned for me or as they say Luck favors who come prepared.
Number gradually increased from Five and 'Fashion Wardrobe' started growing out of the closets.
The name 'Aktara' was conceived, the logo was designed by one and only Dibyendu, my better half and my partner in all crimes.
Aktara started its journey and as Jim Carey famously said, "That's how the Cookie Crumbles"...
